West iceland

Yesterday we drove north of Reykjavik along the coastline to Kurkjufell a montain just outside of the town Grundarfjordur west Iceland, it was a spot picked out by Sheldon. We weren't sure what we were in for as far as road conditions and ended up driving around 500km of some of the most beautiful coastline I've ever seen. It was surprising to me how much the scenery changed from the trip we took to south which seemed to be mostly jagged rocks and harsh looking land. The trip yesterday was a lot of what seemed to be good farmland and almost ever farmhouse had a back drop of huge cliffs with a waterfall or two and an ocean view in front. We woke up to sunshine in Reykjavik in the morning and spent a good part of the day driving in mountains with clouds hanging on them with a few showers. As we came around the corner of the inlet to Grundarfjordur the clouds went away and the sun came out, this little town is one of the coolest setting I have ever seen and I'm sure the pictures don't do it justice. We spent a couple hours having a picnic and waiting for Sheldon to take pictures then started to make our way back. The gps took us for a little shortcut straight up and over a mountain on a little gravel road.
The trip for me so far has been great and as we get into it further it's getting easier to be without TV phones and friends, I miss all those things but I really enjoy only having each other to be with. We eat 3 meals a day together, we get lost together and we decide as a group what to do next. I love my family very much and we get too wrapped up in our own lives at home, I am looking forward to the next few months and all our experiences together.  Kelsey
