Leaving North America

"One of the great things about travel is that you find out how many good, kind people there are." -Edith Wharton
We are getting ready to leave the country! We are all talking about how it feels like we are done a holiday and heading home as we sit in the airport, when in fact, we are headed off to another country! We had a wonderful few days here, we never did make it out to do the Cabot trail as we once thought. It seemed like too much time on the road and we opted for a day trip instead. We drove out to Mahone bay and Lunenburg. In Lunenburg we ate lunch at an overpriced restaurant that was kind of meh, it's in an old fish factory (which happens to be the name of the restaurant)  Ross figured the name is because that is what they served there. It was a neat town though, the Bluenose museum is there also. We walked around a bit but I think we were all feeling like a relaxing day was in order so we took it easy.

We had dinner at our friends one night and had a really nice visit, Darren went to high school with us and we've only seen him a couple of times since then. It was so generous and kind of them to have us over and on top of it they let us do a load of laundry, so we are all washed up for the next trip. Thanks Darren and Larry, you were great hosts and guides to the area!

We did manage yesterday to get out to Peggy's cove, the folk tale is that it was named after a young lady who was shipwrecked there on her way to see her future husband. People went down to see "Peggy from the cove" and the name stuck! It's a sweet little town although I don't know how those people manage to live there, it was crawling with tourists! Sheldon was patiently waiting for them all to leave so he could get a picture of the lighthouse without people in front of it, we told him he would have to stay overnight most likely for that to happen! We were all getting hungry when we left there and as we continued on our loop we pulled over to this brightly painted house called the "white sails bakery and deli" I would encourage anyone who is in the area to stop there for food, it was amazing! The only fault was their portions were too big! The boys had huge veggie sandwiches and I had a Reuben minus the meat (I love sauerkraut) and there was Newfie poutine (with dressing) and the fries were hand cut, best of all were the donuts we took back with us...okay, so it wasn't the healthiest lunch, but it was nummy! It was in a really pretty location, next to a lake under big trees, really nice!

Today we went to pier 21 and wandered around, we got to watch a fairly new film about immigrants to Canada, recent ones as well as a couple of older people. Lately Kelsey and I have these moments of "omg, what are we doing?" Watching this put our minds to ease a bit. The people they interviewed had such great stories and they are so grateful to now be citizens of Canada that it made my heart swell, they gave up everything to be here and headed in to the unknown, we have given up nothing but a bit of time and money and will get to return to our beautiful country! So we are taking deep breaths and doing this!

To end this post I want to draw attention to the quote at top, people ARE so kind, our friends here, who took time out if their busy schedules and our friends back home who are picking up some odds and ends, and my mom who had a lot of stuff to do so she could leave her home to take care of ours! I am so grateful to all of the friends we have and to all the friends we have yet to make! I have seen a lot of smiles and have struck up bits of conversation with strangers already and there are so many more strangers out there hahaha!
